Maithripala to get full commitment from Sajith Premadasa

Strongly approving the decision of the UNP Working Committee to name Maithripala Sirisena as the common candidate, party deputy leader Sajith Premadasa says that he would extend his utmost support to ensure Sirisena’s victory.

He has stated thus while welcoming Maithripala Sirisena to a special discussion held at the opposition leader’s office last night (21).

The meeting which was held to discuss future plans, was attended by Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera, Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga,
Arjuna Ranatunga, Rajitha Senaratne, Wasantha Senanayake, Rajiv Wijesinghe, Duminda Dissanayake, UNP leadership council chairman – Karu Jayasuriya, UNP Assistant leader – Ravi Karunanayake, UNP chairman Kabir Hashim and leadership council member – Mangala Samaraweera.

Political party leaders including Mano Ganesan, Vickramabahu Karunaratne, Sarath Manamendra and Senaka de Silva have also attended the discussion.

Although political issues such as abolishing executive presidency, enacting the 17th Amendment and electoral reforms would be important to a limited crowd from urban areas, the majority masses would want to know what they would benefit from a common candidate, Premadasa has said at the meeting.

Therefore, Premadasa urged to table an effective ‘economic package’ that would be felt by the masses.

This suggestion has received the complete approval of the former President and the UNP leader and Premadasa had been tasked with holding rural campaigning activities within the main political campaign.
