The ‘Visumpaya’ building in Slave Island has been named as the official residence of the Prime Minister, reports say.
Accordingly, D.M. Jayaratne will be the first Premier to reside at Visumpaya. He is expected to move in to his official residence after a few minor repairs to the building.
Earlier, the official residence of the Prime Minister was Temple Trees while Visumpaya was reserved for visiting foreign diplomats.
However, several former Prime Ministers including D.B.Wijetunga and Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and D.M Jayaratne were unable to reside at Temple trees as it was used by Presidents R. Premadasa, Chandrika Kumaratunga and Mahinda Rajapaksa in addition to the President’s House in Fort.
However the few news reporters and parliamentarian members including the Opposition party Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe revealed that KP was at ‘Visumpaya’ in Colombo enjoying all the luxuries. Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP is said to be the present leader of the LTTE and former chief arms procurer of the terrorist organization.
