2089lalithkothalawala_jThe Supreme Court released Ceylinco Group Chairman Lalith Kotelawala who was in remand prison on alleged misappropriation of Rs. 26 billion was released on conditional bail yesterday. Supreme Court Registrar Maheshi Jayasekera said that cash bail in a sum of rupees five million had been deposited with the registry and certified bail of rupees hundred million had also been singed by the taxpayers in terms of the Supreme Court order.

The Registrar added that Kotelawala has tendered an affidavit to the effect that he would abide by the bail conditions. The Supreme Court on Friday ordered Kotelawala to be released on conditional bail and laid down the conditions. According to the order Kotelawala was restrained from traveling out of the Western Province without prior approval of the Court.

The Court also directed him to appear before the Director CID every week and also ordered to get the prior permission of the Court to go out of the Western Province. His passport was impounded and he was restrained from leaving the country. Court also directed that the order of the Court be communicated to the CID, NIB and SIS units at Katunayake Airport.

Kotelawala was also ordered to file an affidavit within two weeks outlining his assets here and abroad. He was further ordered to transfer the assets of the Golden Key Company to the Dedicated fund.

The Court cautioned that violation of any of the bail conditions would result in re-remanding the respondent.
